Letters from the Vaticanian Wastebasket |
There is total chaos in the northern provinces of the Papal States.
Our worst fears seem to have come true. We have received only this
abrupt message from Vatican City:
"The Pope has gone mad."
News
The troops of France and Naples turn out to be disloyal
in distress.
Ducat Expenditures seen on the map:
- The french army in Avignon goes over to Sforza.
- The neapolitan army in Capua goes over to family Marzani
(independent). The people are delighted and cease rebelling.
- Also the neapolitan fleet in Bari turns independent.
Military Operations:
- FRANCE: Savoia --> Aosta, fails, although Lyon
gives support. Nizza --> Savoia, fails, although Saluzzo
gives support. Provence --> Avignon, fails.
- GENOVA: Ventimiglia --> Nizza, Monferrato supports. Asti gives
support into Savoia in favour of Milan. Genova (F) --> Massa,
fails. Genova (G) holds.
- MILANO: Schweitz -->Lyon, Aosta supports. Torino --> Savoia, Asti
and Avignon support (quite amazingly, duke Sforza ordered an army
to move from Tornio to Savoia. Now, Tornio is a city in
northern Finland, which means it is about 2500 kilometers (1500 miles)
away from Savoia, so there must clearly be a mistake somewhere; all the
more as no milanese army has ever been observed in Tornio. After pondering
upon this mystery the judge finally interpreted Tornio as Torino.)
Pavia --> Torino. Mantova starts besieging, Parma supports. Also Verona
starts besieging but fails.
- AUSTRIA: Krain --> Kärnten. Trento --> Vicenza. Treviso holds,
Friuli supports. Trieste holds. Ungarn holds, Steiermark supports.
- VENEZIA: Venezia --> Laguna Veneta, fails. Verona
converts, Padova supports. Treviso tries to convert, fails.
- DALMAZIA: Adriatico Superiore --> Laguna Veneta (Ferrara supports.)
Zara --> Adriatico Superiore. Croazia --> Zara. Fiume holds, Istria
supports. Spalato holds. Ragusa --> Herzegovina.
- FERRARA: Pisa --> Lucca, Modena and Massa support (at least Massa
tries to). Firenze --> Arezzo, rebellion calms down. Prato --> Firenze.
San Marino --> Urbino, rebellion calms down. Bologna --> San Marino.
Ferrara supports Dalmazia into Laguna Veneta. Ravenna supports Napoli into
Rimini.
- STATO DELLA CHIESA: Roma holds. Ancona converts into a fleet.
Adriatico Centrale --> Aquila, Spoleto and the rebellion support, the
latter calms down.
- NAPOLI: Ancona --> Rimini. Aquila tries to hold, fails,
although Salerno supports. Napoli (F) gives support into
Capua - not for the Marzanis, of course. Napoli (G) tries to convert
into an army, but it must hold, since a friendly unit may not be
attacked. Albania holds, puts down the rebellion.
- SIZILIA: Cagliari --> Sassari. Mar Ligure --> Pisa, Tirreno
Occidentale supports. Mer de Toulon --> Mar Ligure. Messina --> Siena.
Tirreno Orientale transports, Golfo di Napoli supports. Gabes holds and
puts down the rebellion.
Retreat Phase:
- FRANCE: Lyon --> Marseille. Savoia is destroyed.
Nizza (A) --> Nizza (G).
- MILANO: Verona --> Brescia.
- NAPOLI: Aquila is destroyed.
Rebellions continue in Reggio, Krain, Slavonia, Sassari,
Patrimonia, Perugia, Tivoli, Otranto and Herzegovina.
