Mehmed escapes towards Istanbul and Cosimo, God knows where, since
he is excommunicated by the Church. Please see below.

Letters from the Vaticanian Wastebasket |
We are glad to start a new column, bringing the latest gossips and
schemings from the murky depths of the Vatican to you, lucky reader. Our first news are however nothing but blatant: pope Pius - that paragon of compassion
and other christian virtues - has given an excommunication order against Cosimo, as if the poor chap hadn't trouble enough already. On the other hand, there seems to prevail a certain comradeship between Pius and
duke Borso of Ferrara - how long, we wonder...
From our french correspondent
| The court has announced that the aging king Charles is feeling
tired. Young prince Louis is training himself to step into his father's
slippers. Here we have a fine portrait of the future statesman: |
 |
Ducat Expenditures seen on the map:
Nothing.
Military Operations:
- FRANCE: Lyon --> Schweitz, fails. Avignon -->
Provence, fails. Nizza conv. army, fails.
Savoia holds with Aosta supporting.
- GENOVA: Nizza --> Provence, fails. Ventimiglia -->
Nizza, fails. Asti gives support into Savoia in
favour of Milan. Genova conv. garrison. Mar Ligure --> Ajaccio; the
rejoicing corsicans support and cease rebelling.
- MILANO: Schweitz holds, Torino --> Savoia, fails.
Pavia --> Torino, fails. Cremona --> Mantova with
Brescia (and Modena and the independent garrison of Mantova) supporting,
Milano --> Bergamo, the people support and cease rebelling (probably
they got tired after two years...)
- AUSTRIA: Bolzano --> Trento, Steiermark --> Kärnten with Tirol
supporting, Slavonia --> Steiermark, Ungarn holds, Friuli holds with
Trieste supporting.
- VENEZIA: Mantova holds, fails although Padova
supports. The army retreats from Mantova into Verona. Treviso -->
Friuli, fails even with the support from Vicenza.
Laguna holds.
- DALMAZIA: Fiume (A) holds, Croazia supports. Ragusa starts sieging
the rebellion, Spalato supports. Zara conv. garrison (our local
correspondents tell that forests are hacked down there; an unexplicable
need of timberwood has arisen).
- FERRARA: Massa and San Marino start besieging (Urbino gives some
help). Pisa brings the siege into conclusion, Pistoia supports (so does
Firenze). Modena supports Cremona into Mantova. Ferrara holds. Bologna
--> Prato, the people are delighted, give support and stop rebelling.
- FIRENZE: Piombino --> Pisa, the besieged garrison supports, but all
comes into nothing.
- STATO DELLA CHIESA: Firenze supports Pisa and Urbino supports San
Marino, both in favour of Ferrara. Siena starts besieging, Perugia
supports. Ancona --> Adriatico Superiore, the garrison in Ancona conv.
fleet. Aquila --> Capua, Spoleto supports. Tivoli holds and puts down
the rebellion. Moreover, Pius puts Cosimo into excommunication.
- NAPOLI: Napoli --> Aquila; people sing, dance, give support and stop
rebelling. Also Salerno supports. Bari --> Adriatico Centrale.
Otranto --> Albania, Adriatico Inferiore transports.
The garrison in Napoli conv. fleet, in Salerno holds, in Bari conv. army.
- SIZILIA: Durazzo besieges the second period succesfully, Mar Ionio
supports. Palermo --> Messina. Bastia --> Mar Ligure, Mer de Toulon
supports, also Ajaccio tries to support but has to retreat into Bastia.
Tirreno Occidentale supports Ajaccio, fails. DO
realize, PLEASE, oh PLEASE, that it is illegal to support a supporting
unit in this game.
- TÜRKIYE: Durazzo tries to break the siege and convert into
a fleet, but Allah shows no mercy.
Other players control all cities of the florentian and turkish
home countries. Florence and Turkey are eliminated from the game. The
excommunication order given to Cosimo expires, of course.
We hope that both of you, Fredrik and Eero are available, in
case a need arises for a substitute leader. Tackar
och pockar, hoppas att vi ses igen. Kiitos kaunis, tapaamisiin.
Rebellions continue in Sassari, Gabes, Patrimony and Ragusa.
The table of controlled cities is published in the Summer 1461 issue.
