From our french correspondentKing Charles is dead. We express our deepest condolences.
However, as the saying goes: le roi est mort - vive le roi! French court
has sent us the portrait of the new king, Louis, who announces that from
now on he wants to be known as "the Great Spider": |

Retreat Phase:
The genoese fleet in Nizza has to retreat, but there is no
vacant place, so it is destroyed.
The papal army in Firenze retreats into Arezzo.
The papal fleet retreats from Adriatico Superiore into Adriatico
centrale.
The venetian armies in Verona and Treviso retreat into garrisons
(they would clash in Padova).
The venetian army in Mantova retreats into Padova. Also Brescia is
vacant, and the rules do not have a clear stand in this choice. The
judge opts for Padova and has corrected slightly the rule 13.5. so that
his choice is now in unison with it. Admittedly, certain opinions could
be put forth in favour of Brescia, but the judge sees fit - in the spirit
of Appendix A. - that a retreat does not change a control, if possible.
A rebellion continues in Sassari.
